5:1 Remember, O Lord, what is come vpon vs: consider and beholde our reproch. Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.
5:2 Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliants. Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.
5:3 We are orphanes and fatherlesse, our mothers are as widowes. We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.
5:4 We haue drunken our water for money, our wood is sold vnto vs. We have drunken our water for money; our wood is sold unto us.
5:5 Our neckes are vnder persecution: we labour and haue no rest. Our necks are under persecution: we labour, and have no rest.
5:6 We haue giuen the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.
5:7 Our fathers haue sinned and are not, and wee haue borne their iniquities. Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities.
5:8 Seruants haue ruled ouer vs: there is none that doeth deliuer vs out of their hand. Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.
5:9 We gate our bread with the perill of our liues, because of the sword of the wildernesse. We gat our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness.
5:10 Our skinne was blacke like an ouen, because of the terrible famine. Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
5:11 They rauished the women in Zion, and the maides in the cities of Iudah. They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah.
5:12 Princes are hanged vp by their hand: the faces of Elders were not honoured. Princes are hanged up by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.
5:13 They tooke the young men to grinde, and the children fell vnder the wood. They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood.
5:14 The Elders haue ceased from the gate, the young men from their musicke. The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their musick.
5:15 The ioy of our heart is ceased, our daunce is turned into mourning. The joy of our heart is ceased; our dance is turned into mourning.
5:16 The crowne is fallen from our head: Woe vnto vs, that wee haue sinned. The crown is fallen from our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
5:17 For this our heart is faint, for these things our eyes are dimme. For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.
5:18 Because of the mountaine of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walke vpon it. Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it.
5:19 Thou, O Lord, remainest for euer: thy throne from generation to generation. Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.
5:20 Wherefore doest thou forget vs for euer, and forsake vs so long time? Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time?
5:21 Turne thou vs vnto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned: renew our dayes as of old. Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.
5:22 But thou hast vtterly reiected vs: thou art very wroth against vs. But thou hast utterly rejected us; thou art very wroth against us.
